Did some more testing yesterday and today. So it seems to only do that in 5th gear and at a certain speed. Therefore, which leaves me to believe it's a load/fuel mapping thing. And I was off the other day, it does it in 5th when I'm trying to accelerate around 50 mph, boost is around 0-2 psi. Same speed, but in 4th is normal. So the fuel might be too rich. So I guess the slow winter driving + my laziness of taking it out of 5th = pwnage.

Anyway, here's my situation and let you guys decide.

Some background info: 2003 WRX w/ about 115K on the clock. Stock clutch, stock trans. Engine has seen a couple of different turbos since 20K. Now it's running on a 20G. I don't drag nor do a lot of stop light racing, therefore the clutch hasn't been dropped a lot. If anything, most are from a roll when I'm already in gear. For the pass 2 years, this car rarely see boost when compared to how it was driven before.

So today, I'm on the highway, slowed to about 45mph behind a slow moving salt truck. Put it into 4th then to 3rd gear. Got into about 15 psi, and passed the truck at around 80 mph. And then coasted back to 65 mph, in 5th. Drove for about a mile, and got onto the 490 bridge. The car was in 5th at 65 mph, and it really didn't want to accelerate. I didn't get into boost, but it very slowly decreased speed, but I'm still giving the petal a slight increase in gas. I did notice some vibration on the steering wheel. Put the car in 4th and it seems to drove fine at 60 mph, 3K or so on the tach.

I'm not getting any miss firing CEL or anything, so I don't think it's a missing firing issue that was causing the vibration.

The vibration was more constant in 5th, 65mph, 2K on the tach. So I'm thinking the 3rd gear pulled caused the clutch to heat up and slowly slipping. Any other guesses?
Hey, i do have the same issues too, and mine is a legacy with an autotragic with no turbo. It does vibrate in the top gear with the tq converter locked.

Guilty as charged.

so it looked like the issue was from a semi-frozen passenger front caliper's piston. I can't believe how much it makes a difference to the drive.

Interesting; that's new to me - I can imagine it happening though. Thanks for the update. Need any help resolving the issue?

Gerald.

Thanks Gerald. I'd resolved the issue last night. Will be keeping an eye on that caliper throughout the week and weekend.

No problem. Are you going to rebuild or replace that caliper if the problem persists?

Thanks to Matt (aka STI Fan), he found some used OEM calipers w/ brackets from a 2003 WRX. So I'm going to replace both of them for these calipers.

I hate bleeding brakes!
